Some place names use "the" — follow these patterns:

🚨 Common Mistakes

🚫 Never Use "The"

⚠️ The exceptions that DO take "the"

Plural family surnames, a few special place names, and using "the" for emphasis before a name.

We invited the Hammonds to the party. (= the Hammond family) She works in The Hague. (special exception) Do you mean THE Andy who lives down the road? (emphasis/distinguishing)
